Requirements of Sponsors
The primary responsibility of all Nafasi Project sponsors is to make sure all school fees are paid on time. This will best ensure that your sponsor student will not miss any school causing them to fall behind in their education.
We are happy to arrange a payment plan that best works for you. School fees can be paid once annually (preferably in December) or by term, three times per year (December, April, August).
Partner sponsorships are available, in order to allow sponsors to split the cost with a friend, family member, or small group. If the cost of a sponsorship is split between two or more people we ask that you please nominate one person to collect all money before submitting it to Nafasi Project.
Maua English Medium School fees are consistent from student to student. Students in our vocational training program will have varying school fees that will be discussed on a case by case basis.

Rewards of Sponsors
All Nafasi Project Sponsors will receive updates on their child at least three times each year. When a new sponsor registers they will be given a login and password to our Afroplan Sponsorship Database. This site can be accessed at anytime to view updated photos and report cards from their sponsor child. Nafasi Project will also upload receipts of payment for sponsor’s financial records.

Sending Gifts
Skype Sessions
Plan a Visit |
Sending letters, pictures, and packages is welcome and especially exciting around the holiday season or back to school times (January, May, and September). Keep in mind sending to and from America and Tanzania can be expensive. To accommodate feel free to send scanned pictures and letters to [email protected] and we can print and deliver them to your sponsor child/family. Also in exchange for sending heavy packages, feel free to send a one-time donation to Nafasi Project, in the memo please write “gifts for ______”. Then feel free to email Emily Lyons specifying what you would like her to do with your financial gift. She can give you a good idea of the price of clothing/food/toys/school supplies in Tanzania.
If you strongly desire to meet your sponsor child face to face but can't afford a trip to Tanzania, you are welcome to contact Emily Lyons to set up a Skype session with your sponsor child. We recommend that you wait until your sponsor child has been attending English Medium School for at least two or three years before conducting a Skype session. This will give the child enough time to gain a sufficient understanding of the English language to where they are able to confidently carry out a simple conversation with you in English. Also waiting to set up a Skype session will allow your sponsor child to get familiar with you and the role you play in their life before being introduced to you. If a Skype session is arranged too early children often feel shy and will not display their true personalities.
For those who feel truly compelled to meet their sponsor child and their family face to face Nafasi Project can help you to arrange your trip to Arusha, Tanzania. This will allow you to see first hand the life of your sponsor child. You will visit Afroplan Foundation, Maua English Medium School, even your sponsor child’s home.
Whether you choose to come volunteer with Nafasi Project or come to Arusha on a tourist vacation we are happy to help you plan your trip! Arusha, Tanzania is home to the best safari parks in Africa, including The Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater as well as the tallest freestanding mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro. We can promise you this will be a trip you will never forget! |
